”Our future depends on what we do today”- Mahatma Gandhi
Attapady in the Tamilian border of Kerala is the biggest tribal settlement in Kerala. A standalone region due to its geography and protection of Silent Valley forest ranges. This farm village is a combination of three adjoining Panchayats Pudur, Sholayur and Agali with major three tribes Kurumba, Muduga and Irula.
Kerala Government took a special initiative at this village to convert it as a Millet Village identifying the geographical features and reasonably lower rains suitable for millet farming. The Millet Village project is in good progress and they have increased the cultivated land to around 2000 acres and now the organic certification process is in the final stage.
Nature to Homes is happy to associate with the village to do our best to see that their crops are reaching the real customers and the farmers get reasonable prices immediately on harvest. This will also instigate the younger generation to engage in farming. We will be promoting their produces in a better way to the urban population by demonstrating different cooking recipes using the Millets and pulses produced in this village. We will also be conducting orientation sessions to the urban community to understand better about the nutritious benefits of these small cereals and Millets. Our close networking with the local people facilitates the traditional knowledge to be translated to the urban community.
We source Finger Millet/Ragi, Little Millet, Foxtail Millet, Barnyard Millet, Kodo Millet, Proso Millet, Pearl Millet and Sorghum/Jowar etc. from this village as farm fresh harvests and do the polishing, de husking along with value addition at our most hygienic facility before bringing to our store.
While you buy these products, you are becoming a part of our Sustainable efforts to support the local farmers with best prices for their crops and promoting healthy diet for those who are in search of a healthy living.
